Motorcycling simply appears to be somewhat of a homogenous undertaking to the general public. A biker's wife, for example, simply could not see any difference between a green 1999 Kawasaki ZRX1100, and a black 1971 Yamaha RT360.
She had simply exclaimed "They're just motorcycles", then she would roll her eyes ever so sweetly.
Non-riding friends of the biker would equate his motorcycle obsession with other people's hobbies such as origami, as well as ballroom dancing or even a nesting-Russian-doll collecting. Surely, anyone with a hobby can relate to why they love it.
